Sheffield United head into the final four games of the season still with a realistic chance of qualifying for Europe but now face another tough test against Chelsea.
The Blades grabbed a late winner at home to Wolves on Wednesday night while Chelsea were 3-2 victors at Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
That was the eighth successive Blues game to produce at least three goals so over 2.5 goals at 87/100 is our opening Sheff Utd vs Chelsea prediction.
A Look At Sheffield United’s Betting Odds
United began the season as one of the favourites for relegation but have proved much tougher to beat than expected.
Their hopes of qualifying for Europe were boosted on Wednesday when John Egan headed home Oliver Norwood’s corner deep into injury time following a sustained period of pressure to give the Blades a crucial 1-0 win.
Asked if a place in Europe was now within their reach, Blades boss Chris Wilder replied: “We’ve never felt anything is on our grasp, or in our reach, we shouldn’t be anywhere near the position we are in.
“But we are where we are because we get our heads down and take defeat on the chin and come roaring back.
“People should be focusing about us not being in the bottom three, but you can’t affect what other people talk about. We just get our heads down and do what we need to do and affect what we can affect.
“Seven points out of nine is a really good return and we have to go again. We don’t have the strength and power some other clubs in this division have got but we have plenty of heart and plenty of bottle.”
That was evident when United came from 2-0 down to rescue a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in August.
Last Sheff Utd line-up: Henderson, Baldock, Stevens, O’Connell, Basham, Egan, Norwood, Osborn, Berge, McBurnie, Sharp.
A Look At Chelsea’s Betting Odds
Chelsea stayed on course for a top-four finish but their defensive problems were again all too apparent in a thrilling 3-2 victory at Crystal Palace.
Goals from Olivier Giroud, Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham ensured the Blues took the points from an end-to-end London derby, but it could have been very different.
Kepa Arrizabalaga was forced into a wonderful fingertip save to deny Scott Dann before Christian Benteke was thwarted by Kurt Zouma’s last-ditch challenge in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
Boss Frank Lampard said: “We should have had the game under much more control at that point.
“At 2-0 we should have carried on and controlled the game better and at 3-2 we had a lot of chances, good chances, to finish it off.
“There was slight wrong decisions made on the final pass or shot and then it invites pressure.
“Kepa made a great save and Kurt made a great tackle. In those last moments it was nerve-wracking for us.”
Four of their five games since the season resumed have been settled by a one-goal margin so let’s take 3/2 for either team to win by exactly one goal as our final Sheff Utd vs Chelsea prediction.
Last Chelsea line-up: Kepa, Christensen, Zouma, James, Azpilicueta, Barkley, Mount, Pulisic, Gilmour, Willian, Giroud.
SHEFF UTD 1-0 Wolves – John Egan
Crystal Palace 2-3 CHELSEA – Olivier Giroud, Christian Pulisic, Tammy Abraham
Head-to-head: Chelsea 2-2 Sheff Utd
