Augsburg to beat Freiburg @ 7/5
Last season’s meetings between the teams finished 1-1, but Augsburg seem decent value to get the better of Freiburg this weekend as the first of our European football tips . The Fuggerstadter held Champions League outfit Borussia Monchengladbach 1-1 last week when they snatched a late equaliser despite having Raphael Framberger sent off midway through the second half. Freiburg have failed to win since the opening day of the season and sank to a new low last Sunday when they lost 3-1 at home to rock-bottom Mainz, who were beaten by the same scoreline in Augsburg three weeks earlier.
Borussia Monchengladbach to beat Schalke @ 7/20
Gladbach take on bottom-of-the-table Schalke buoyed by a 4-0 rout of Shakhtar on Wednesday which has put them in pole position to make it into the last 16 of the Champions League. Schalke’s first three away games resulted in 8-0, 4-0 and 3-0 defeats by Bayern, Leipzig and Dortmund respectively, so another tough trip will not fill them with confidence. Die Fohlen have drawn three of their four home games this season but should enjoy a comfortable victory this weekend.
Sevilla to win at Huesca @ Evens
Sevilla reached the knockout phase of the Champions League in midweek so should be in good spirits as they return to domestic action where they are also in decent form after enjoying back-to-back wins against Osasuna and Celta Vigo. Huesca remain without a win in La Liga and although seven draws shows they can be competitive, 4-1 thrashings by both Real Sociedad and Real Madrid before the international break highlighted their limitations.
Atletico Madrid to win at Valencia @ 7/10
Atletico arguably look the team to beat in Spain so far and although Real Sociedad are top of the table, they are only three points clear of Diego Simeone’s men having played two games more. Atletico highlighted their title credentials last weekend with a 1-0 victory over Barcelona and they have still conceded just two goals in La Liga. Valencia, on the other hand, have shipped 16 which is the most of any team in the top half so we’re happy to take them on.
Marseille to beat Nantes @ 19/20
The last of our European football tips comes from France where Marseille have won three successive games to climb into the top six, which is particularly impressive given they have played two fewer matches than the five teams above them. Having also beaten PSG this season, consistency seems the key to them remaining in title contention so we’ll overlook their poor Champions League results. Nantes are yet to take a point off any of the current top six in three attempts this season so we’re backing a home win.
