Kick-off: 1500, 26/10/2019
Stadium: Vicarage Road
A meeting between Watford and Bournemouth would have screamed goals earlier in the season but that has not been the trend in recent weeks.
Both teams seem to have put the emphasis on being harder to break down and the Vicarage Road clash may not be as thrilling as might have been previously expected.
The odds certainly suggest a high-scoring game but we think the value is with under 2.5 goals at 13/10 as our opening Watford vs Bournemouth prediction.
A Look At Watford’s Betting Odds
Watford’s problems were highlighted to Quique Sanchez Flores when they conceded eight goals at Manchester City in only his second match since returning as manager.
The Hornets have improved defensively since then, allowing only two shots on target in a 2-0 defeat at Wolves and holding Sheffield United to a goalless draw.
They then held out for 80 minutes after taking an early lead at Tottenham, only to be denied victory by a late Dele Alli equaliser.
It was still a positive result for Watford, even though the pattern of the game meant they almost managed more than a second successive draw.
“We defended with a medium block and the team was really safe, playing on the counter-attack,” said Flores. “I saw many teams playing Tottenham: Newcastle and Southampton.
“Newcastle won here and we played much better than this team, but we just draw. Maybe we are realistic before the match, thinking to draw is a good result.
“Now we need to create a balance between the feelings about nearly winning and drawing. It is not too bad and we can improve. I know our players believe in their work.”
We expect Watford to try and be hard to break down despite having home advantage here and a goalless first half at 12/5 is added to our Watford vs Bournemouth betting tips.
Last Watford line-up: Foster, Janmaat, Dawson, Cathcart, Holebas, Kabasele, Cleverley, Chalobah, Doucoure, Pereyra, Welbeck.
Watford’s problems increased this week after it was confirmed forward Danny Welbeck would spend a lengthy period of time on the sidelines with a hamstring issue.
Full-back Jose Holebas is also absent having received his fifth yellow card against Tottenham, while Troy Deeney is still not fit and Isaac Success is only just returning to full fitness.
A Look At Bournemouth’s Betting Odds
The goals have also dried up for Bournemouth recently and the 0-0 draw at home to injury-hit Norwich last weekend was a frustrating result.
Dominic Solanke went closest to breaking the deadlock for the hosts when he was denied by Tim Krul in the first half before the Cherries’ performance petered out.
It was Bournemouth’s first 0-0 draw in the league for a year and manager Eddie Howe said: “People will see the fact we’re playing Norwich at home and the expectation is for it to be a home win and I understand that and that’s certainly our expectation as well.
“But these games are never that easy. We sort of faded away in the game, stopped doing the things that had brought us that early dominance and then became quite desperate to score.”
Bournemouth have now gone 224 minutes without a goal after a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal prior to the international break and we think both teams will be pushing to nick a winner late on.
With that in mind, our final pick from the Watford vs Bournemouth odds is exactly one goal in the match at 21/4.
Last Bournemouth line-up: Ramsdale, S Cook, Ake, Smith, Rico, L Cook, H Wilson, Fraser, Billing, Solanke, C Wilson.
Bournemouth expect to have Colombia midfielder Jefferson Lerma available again following a hip problem suffered on international duty.
Wales midfielder David Brooks is stepping up his recovery from a pre-season ankle injury, while winger Junior Stanislas (knee) and midfielder Dan Gosling (hip) both continue their own rehabilitation.
