Southampton have struggled to pick up points during a tough run of fixtures but we feel they have a big performance in them at Sheffield United.

Saints have tumbled down the table during a nine-match winless run in Premier League matches, but they have impressed in the FA Cup.

This is a chance to erase any fears of being dragged into a relegation battle and 23/20 for an away victory is our first Sheff Utd vs Southampton prediction.

A Look At Sheffield United’s Betting Odds

Sheffield United look doomed to falling into the Championship but, to be fair, they are refusing to go down without a fight.

Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat of Aston Villa at this venue was a fourth win in 10 league outings, plus they are also through to the cup quarter-finals.

Against Villa, David McGoldrick’s first-half goal put the hosts in front and they held on to that lead despite Phil Jagielka being sent off early in the second period.

“Any result in this division is a huge result for Sheffield United,” said Chris Wilder.

“Obviously, it was made a little more difficult going down to 10 men, but we showed good character – as I’ve spoken about all season regarding my team.

“We took that big moment tonight and when we had to keep the ball out of the back of the net, we did that tonight too.”

We’re taking nothing away from the Blades, but Villa did have a bad night at the office, as they failed to capitalise on having 72 per cent of the possession.

Saints cruised to a 3-0 win when these teams met at St Mary’s in mid-December and have the creative flair to prove a cut above again.

Looking at the Sheff Utd vs Southampton odds, we even think 31/10 for the visitors to prevail by more than one goal is a good option.

Last Sheff Utd line-up: Ramsdale, Baldock, Stevens, Jagielka, Ampadu, Bryan, Fleck, Lundstram, Norwood, McGoldrick, Brewster.

Jagielka has been added to United’s lengthy list of absentees, as the 38-year-old is now suspended. He joins Chris Basham (hamstring), Jayden Bogle (shin), Jack O’Connell (knee), John Egan (toe), Jack Robinson (foot), Jack Rodwell and Sander Berge (hamstring) on the sidelines.

A Look At Southampton’s Betting Odds

Southampton have picked up just one point in nine league games following Monday’s 1-0 loss at Everton.

Chances were few and far between in a tight tussle at Goodison Park, but Saints did show some encouraging signs late on.

Moussa Djenepo fired just wide at the end of a nice move, while Jannik Vestergaard forced Jordan Pickford to make a decent save.

Defender Jan Bednarek told the club website: “It’s time to step up and show our courage and our togetherness. It’s not easy, but we have to do it.”

Ralph Hasenhuttl added: “There is hard work to do but you know us as a team, from what we have gone through in the past, you know for sure we will find a way out.”

Saints are down to the bare bones due to injury problems, but they were still able to field an attacking line-up at Everton.

Danny Ings, Che Adams, Stuart Armstrong, Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse are all potential match-winners.

Kyle Walker-Peters, Ibrahima Diallo and Takumi Minamino may also be available for a timely return at Bramall Lane.

Adams has a good record against his former club, netting three times in the last two meetings, so 9/2 for him to score in an away win completes our Sheff Utd vs Southampton betting tips.

Last Saints line-up: Forster, Bertrand, Vestergaard, Salisu, Bednarek, Ward-Prowse, Redmond, Djenepo, Armstrong, Ings, Adams.

Djenepo, who took a knock on Monday, needs managing during a frantic schedule, while Theo Walcott, Oriol Romeu, Will Smallbone and Michael Obafemi remain absent.
