The FedEx Cup play-offs continue with the Dell Technologies Championship, where Justin Thomas is fancied to defend his title, writes Phil Casey.
Twenty three of the world’s top 25 are among a very strong field at TPC Boston, where Thomas won by three shots from Jordan Spieth last year, three weeks after claiming his maiden major title in the US PGA.
And although a good case can be made for many of those players towards the top of the market, Thomas gets the nod as our first selection as he looks to continue a superb run of form.
The world number three, who is one of four players who could end the tournament at the top of the rankings, bounced back from a missed cut in the Open to win the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and finished sixth in the defence of his US PGA title the following week.
A week off did little to affect the 25-year-old’s form and he made it 12 sub-70 rounds in a row at The Northern Trust to finish eighth, so he can be confidently backed in the each-way market at 10/1.
Next up we’ll give another chance to Masters champion Patrick Reed, who was one of our selections last week but never got out of second gear and finished in a tie for 25th.
The reason for the show of faith is that Reed has finished fourth, fifth and sixth at TPC Boston in the last three years and he can backed each way at 33/1 for a repeat performance.
Another player with excellent course form is England’s Paul Casey, who was fourth last year and second behind Rory McIlroy in 2016, when he was unable to convert a three-shot lead after 54 holes.
Casey faded after an opening 67 last week but with his Ryder Cup fate now out of his hands, the world number 16 can hopefully reward an each-way bet at odds of 60/1.
Finally, American Chez Reavie is worth a small interest in the each-way market at 125/1. The world number 56 lost out in a play-off in this event back in 2011 and comes into the week on the back of two straight top-20 finishes.
