With The Open coming up at Royal Portrush later this month, we’re getting in the golfing groove by picking out our Irish Open predictions.

Lahinch Golf Club will stage this European Tour event for the first time and a star-studded field will head to a course described as the St Andrews of Ireland.

Here are three players to watch out for, with their Irish Open odds:

Graeme McDowell @ 33/1

G-Mac will have fond memories of Lahinch, having won the 2000 South of Ireland Championship here in his amateur days. This could be a big month for the Northern Irishman, who will be on home turf for The Open and celebrates his 40th birthday on July 30. McDowell has been in good form on the PGA Tour this year, winning the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in the Dominican Republic in March and doing well at his last two events, finishing eighth at the Canadian Open and 16th at the US Open.

John Rahm @ 8/1

The firm favourite has to be on the short-list for any Irish Open betting tips, having lifted this trophy at Portstewart a couple of years ago, romping to victory by six strokes with a record score of 24 under. The Spaniard returns to the Emerald Isle in superb form, having followed up a third-placed finish at the US Open by tying for second at last week’s Andalucia Masters. World number 11 Rahm has been priced accordingly, but two wins on the PGA Tour this term only add to his appeal.

Rafa Cabrera-Bello @ 28/1

We’re siding with another Spaniard for the final selection in our Irish Open predictions. Cabrera-Bello has past history of coming good around this time of year, landing the Scottish Open in 2017 and securing two July triumphs back in his Challenge Tour days. The 35-year-old has made the cut in 15 of his 16 PGA Tour events this season, finishing third on a couple of occasions, and benefited from a drop in class when filling the same position at the BMW International Open in Germany recently.
